AECOM was a sponsor at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) Spotlight 2023, which took place from June 4-6, 2023 at the Paradox Singapore Merchant Court at Clarke Quay. SIWW is an annual global water event which brings together leaders from the water industry to discuss the latest trends and technologies in water management.

Throughout the three-day event, leaders from utilities, cities and industry shared experiences and solutions in tackling climate and water sustainability challenges, aligned with this year’s theme, “Urgent Climate Action for a Sustainable Water Future.”

One of our key contributions to the event is our sponsorship of the Young Water Leaders Program. This program brings together young professionals from water utilities around the world to discuss sustainability, innovation, and digitalization in the water industry, and help them become effective catalysts of continuous change in their home country and beyond. Along with Singapore’s National Water Agency, Public Utility Board (PUB), we facilitated discussions among the participants and shared insights on the latest trends and technologies in the water sector.

Our cohort of 15 young water leader also took part in sharing sessions and thematic breakout discussions on the three themes – sustainability, innovation and digitalization.

We also participated in a plenary session on climate-resilient utilities. In this session, Beverley Stinson, Executive Vice President, Water, and Robert Bornhofen, Director of Innovation, DC Water, discussed their 20-year case study on an energy-positive water treatment facility developed through a strategic partnership between AECOM and DC Water. The discussion not only centered on the plant’s pioneering technology which contributes to enhanced environmental protection, GHG reduction, increased sustainability, and cost efficiency, but also emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing within the industry to accelerate innovation to combat the climate crisis.

Both speakers emphasized that by working together, the industry can accelerate innovation and develop solutions that address the challenges of climate change.

This year’s participation and sponsorship at SIWW 2023 marked another valuable opportunity for AECOM to connect and share its expertise, innovations and professional services not only in the water industry, but also in digital and sustainability.
