The firm has been reappointed to all four lots on the framework, bringing its full breadth of ecological services to support conservation and resilience efforts across England’s waterways.
DALLAS (December 12, 2024) — AECOM, the trusted global infrastructure leader, today announced that it has been appointed to all four lots of the UK Environment Agency’s (EA) major new Ecological Services Framework 4 (EcoSF4). The appointment will enable AECOM to support the EA in its efforts to protect and enhance England’s rivers and wetlands, and follows AECOM’s successful delivery of work under the previous EcoSF3 framework.
Sponsored by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the EA is responsible for flood and waste management, regulating land and water pollution, and the protection and conservation of the environment throughout England. The EA, Natural England and other Defra organizations will use the framework to procure technical and regulatory work across a wide range of ecological services.
“Our leadership as the industry’s top environmental engineering firm prepares our teams to meet the growing market demand for solutions that address pressing biodiversity and resilience challenges,” said Frank Sweet, chief executive of AECOM’s global Environment business. “We look forward to supporting EA’s pressing restoration and ecological objectives across England’s waterways, leveraging the full scope of our capabilities as a single source environmental services provider.”
AECOM’s appointment to this framework will support the EA’s efforts across a wide range of programs aimed at restoring England’s rivers and wetlands, boosting natural flood management, and streamlining the passage of fish and other fauna through the country’s waterways.
“As a global leader in environmental consulting, AECOM is ideally placed to support vital conservation efforts, build resilience across environments and help address crucial challenges like flood-risk management across England,” said Colin Wood, chief executive of AECOM’s Europe and India region. “We are proud to continue our longstanding relationship with the EA through this reappointment, which reflects both the breadth of our expertise and the successful delivery of EcoSF3.”
The EcoSF4 framework’s four lots cover specialist macroinvertebrate services; habitat and species surveys, evaluation and report writing services; geomorphology, river restoration and habitat creation services; and fish passage design services, respectively.
AECOM was previously selected by the EA as the only supplier appointed to all EcoSF3 lots and was appointed to over 25 river restoration and fish passage projects during the framework, providing services for the River Roch Improvement Strategy, the Millmead Fish Pass Detailed Design, and the Crystal Clear Clyst Restoration Plan. The firm was also appointed to 38 macroinvertebrate sample analysis commissions for various EA offices, including those in Hertfordshire & North London, West Midlands, Cumbria & Lancashire, and Yorkshire.
