AECOM’s team in Austria renovated research laboratories for the UN’s International Atomic Energy Association (IAEA), known widely as Atoms for Peace. The project was part of the IAEA’s wider programme to revitalise its entire campus in Seibersdorf, Austria. Headquartered in Vienna, Atoms for Peace was set up in 1957 to facilitate global cooperation in the nuclear field. The agency works with member states and multiple partners to promote the safe, secure and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.

The new 24 million euro research complex comprises the refurbishment of labs dating back to the 1950s and 1960s, along with new builds. AECOM team has been working with the IAEA in Seibersdorf on smaller design projects and feasibility studies, and this new win is testament to the quality of the services they have offered to date.

AECOM provided architectural and engineering services (Structural, MEP, Building Physics, and Infrastructure) for the functional design and cost estimate. The project design was prepared using BIM. Use of BIM goes beyond the planning and design phase of the project, extending throughout the building’s lifecycle, and supporting processes including cost management, construction management, project management and facility operation.
