Places that transform
The construction industry is on the precipice of radical change. With increasing emphasis on decarbonising the built environment, pressure is mounting on our industry to reduce carbon outputs.
Modern methods of construction (MMC), widely recognised as ‘offsite construction’, will be integral to the longevity of our buildings, the transformation to a sustainable construction industry, and a resilient future for all. With a shift away from a ‘one-off’ mentality in construction, offsite construction requires us to consider the entire building lifecycle and unlock value, even at the end of a building’s useful life.
While we have made important progress and are seeing more projects integrate MMC, we are yet to see widespread uptake across our industry. Collaboration is fundamental to unlocking the full potential of MMC and deliver significant environmental, quality and safety benefits. Industry, government, and academia must work together to engineer the basic building blocks for long-term resilience while driving innovation and technological advancement.
The articles and case studies below explore where MMC is already delivering benefits and the steps needed to transform our industry to thrive in a net zero world.
