Kö-Bogen is a prime development project situated in the centre of Düsseldorf, which is one of the leading economic cities in Germany. This prestigious mixed-use retail and commercial development has been designed by the worldrenowned architect Daniel Libeskind, who designed the two buildings with vegetated cuts in the façade and a pathway to and from the Hofgarten, the central park in Düsseldorf.

The Kö-Bogen project is a major milestone in the overall redevelopment of Düsseldorf’s inner city and creates a highly visible link between two of the busiest shopping streets and the Hofgarten. The complexities of this site add to the significance of the project: its location in the city centre means that construction will require the relocation of roads and transit infrastructure, including rebuilding one road through a tunnel under the buildings.

The Kö-Bogen planning and design process is based on strong sustainable principles and URS Germany & Benelux is assisting the client to implement these through our LEED certification services, such as:

  • Sustainability as an integrative principle for all design disciplines
  • Construction on a previously developed site with excellent connection to all city functions and public transportation
  • Energy efficient cooling and heating systems
  • Reduction of potable water usage
    • Consideration of occupancy health
  • Vegetated areas with native / adaptive plants
  • Improved conditions for potential certification(s) of tenant spaces under “LEED for Commercial Interiors” for the future retail and office tenants

The Kö-Bogen was registered as a LEED-CS Campus project. The two buildings, Haus Hofgarten and Haus Königsallee, achieved LEED Platinum in the summer of 2014.
