AECOM showcased our expertise in water projects at the 9th IWA-ASPIRE Conference and Exhibition and the WRA Taiwan International Water Forum 2023. We shared our experience in supporting water utilities in the UK to decarbonize their operations and presented 16 diverse projects, highlighting our contributions to water management. This event attracted over 1,800 water professionals from 34 countries, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and discussing the latest hot topics such as climate change, green water technology, emerging water pollutants, water treatment and recycling, water resource management, digital water, and water and net zero. Through this confluence of industry professionals, integrated solutions were proposed to achieve the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Chris Gray on achieving net zero emissions for water companies in England
In his keynote presentation, “UK Water – Achieving Net Zero Requires Ingenuity,” Chris Gray, head of our Water team in Europe and India, detailed how water companies in England are advancing their pledge to reach net zero operational emissions by 2030 and how AECOM is helping them achieve this goal. He explained the challenges they face such as frequent and extreme weather events, and emphasized the sector’s critical role in mitigating these impacts by reducing its own carbon footprint and aiding the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Water Exhibition Highlights
The water exhibition showcased AECOM’s dedication to achieving net-zero carbon emissions through innovative water infrastructure solutions, including desalination and renewable water resource management. Our presence in Taiwan includes significant contributions to both desalinated and reclaimed water sites, playing a key role in meeting the country’s water needs. Between 2014 and 2023, we planned a total desalination capacity of 1,028,400 cubic meters per day (CMD) and a reclaimed water capacity of 485,500 CMD.
