AECOM has recently been listed in the top 10 best workplaces in Australia to Give Back. We provide a variety of ways for you to Give Back to the community and environment. You can use your paid volunteer day to support a charity of your choice, get involved in pro bono work, raise money through fundraising efforts or simply make regular payroll donations and have it matched by AECOM.

How you can Give Back

Volunteer

Take advantage of your annual day of Volunteer Leave and give your time to a cause close to your heart.

Eighteen of our Sydney colleagues braved the rain on World Environment Day to volunteer with the World Wildlife Fund to replant trees in the Narrabeen reserve – an area of ecological significance. The team were also treated to a session with a scientist from WWF.

Key partner programs

Volunteer your time, expertise or funds to one of our key partner organisations

AECOM has partnered with The Smith Family since 2017. The Smith Family provides support for children from disadvantaged situations to obtain a positive and supported education (from pre-school through to University) to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves.
We partner with The Smith Family (and their affiliates in New Zealand) to provide both sponsoring, mentoring and work placement opportunities, tailored for education and careers in STEM subjects

Payroll donation

Make a one off contribution or donate regularly. It’s quick, easy and tax free.

The ANZ Give Back platform provides easy access to set up payroll giving, volunteering or fundraising.

Christchurch City Mission – Foodbank Appeal

AECOM Christchurch supported City Mission’s 2018 Foodbank Appeal in July.

The foodbank provides food for those in need in Christchurch, with around 9,000 families given food parcels each year through this initiative. Christchurch City Mission also provides night shelter, a day centre and many other social services to the community.

Staff also collected non-perishable canned or packaged food for distribution to those in need. Some keen bakers also held a Wednesday Morning cake bake sale to encourage extra donations!

Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation (PTAC) Pro bono

Use your technical skills for good and support a pro-bono project.

Tjuntjuntjara is a remote Aboriginal Community 660 kilometres north east of Kalgoorlie and is home to the Pila Nguru, the Traditional Owners of the Spinifex Native Title Determination Area in the Great Victoria Desert.

AECOM provided a Sustainable Land Use Plan to the Community for developing as a foundation for future development of the community infrastructure and facilities. It will also form a point of reference for future funding applications, so that they can be tied back to an overall plan for development.   The pro bono project was facilitated by Engineers Without Borders.

Greening our Operations – Sydney office waste audit and implementation

The largest office by size and staff numbers, the Sydney office undertook a review of its waste practices and behaviour in response to a number of emerging trends and mounting issues during 2018:

  • Poor recycling practices — contamination in both general waste and recycling bins
  • Contamination of paper streams, potentially causing tonnes of recyclable waste to go to landfill
  • No baseline data on the amount of general waste created by the business and staff
  • A desire for AECOM to improve the status quo.

Three floors were identified and their general and recycling bin contents audited after hours over five working days. Waste and co-mingled recycling from levels 5, 8 and 22,  was collected, weighed and sorted, identifying contamination percentages and the weight of potentially compostable organics. Other thematic items, such as coffee cups and biscuit wrappers, were identified to inform the design of useful waste signage and communications, and office procurement alternatives.
