The planning and design of this 420,000 square foot expansion reflects Gundersen’s desire to improve performance. In the emergency department, a new care model reduces wait times and increases flexibility by having patients entering on one side of a treatment room and physicians from the other. All interventional services are co-located on the same floor to create adjacencies for an efficient use of support space and staff resources. The new nursing units incorporate the latest in healing environment thinking, including personal environmental controls and education at each patient’s bedside.

A new 600-car structure provides convenient parking for patient/visitors, and fulfills a PUD agreement with the city, requiring a specific number of parking spaces on campus to be in a parking structure. The garage has a Lower Level Public Concourse connection to the hospital and links into the main public circulation and entrance lobby. A Discharge Lobby is located at the lower level with a dedicated drop-off provided in the garage.
