The Miami Dolphins’ Stadium unveils new canopy, high-definition video boards for this NFL season
LOS ANGELES (Aug. 1, 2016) — Hunt Construction Group, an AECOM company, celebrated the phase two topping out of the 65,326-seat Dolphins’ stadium, home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins on Friday, July 29, 2016. Hunt is the construction manager for this multi-year renovation that will modernize this global entertainment destination.
The work during phase two, which will be completed for this upcoming NFL season, includes a 626,000-square-foot canopy with four spires that reach 357 feet high in each corner of the stadium. The canopy provides shade for 92 percent of the fans, an increase from only 17 percent prior to construction, and also was built with resiliency in mind to withstand Category 4 hurricane winds. Also included in this phase are four, 112’ by 50’ high-definition video scoreboards, a state-of-the-art sound system and new LED sports lighting.
“This is a complex project with strict deadlines that required an unparalleled work commitment and level of expertise – we are honored that the Miami Dolphins trusted our team with this responsibility,” said Pat Delano, vice president, Hunt Construction Group. “Today, we celebrate the men and women who worked so hard to get us to this point and we are all looking forward to the opening kickoff in September.”
In its entirety, the renovations to the six-level, 800,000-square-foot stadium include the canopy and video boards, new seats across the entire facility, renovated concourses and concession areas, new club level suites, and new open-air suites.
The stadium has remained fully functional throughout the sports seasons of the renovation process, including during the first part of the renovations that were completed prior to last year’s football season. The final phase of renovations is scheduled to be completed in August 2017, which will include the club level of the stadium and new suites.
