AECOM was appointed to prepare a master plan for a new deep water international port in Doha, Qatar. The new port was designed to meet the country’s future requirements for all types of cargo and also meet the needs of the military. The location of the new port involved identifying potential sites along more than 18 miles of coastline. At each location the relative merits of in-shore, off-shore and in-land port locations were assessed.
After all considerations, it was proposed the new port would be located in-shore and encompass container terminals, grain terminal, general cargo terminal, livestock terminal, vehicle terminal, cruise and ferry passenger terminal, offshore supply base, port marine unit facility for tugs, pilot boats and maintenance vessels, and highway and rail connections including a rail terminal.
