The 2020 Environmental Business Journal ® Business Achievement Awards and the 2020 Climate Change Business Journal ® Business Achievement Awards recognize strategic business intelligence in the environmental industry

LOS ANGELES (April 14, 2021) — AECOM, the world’s premier infrastructure consulting firm, has announced that it has received a total of six recognitions from Environmental Business International Inc. – four recognitions from their 2020 Environmental Business Journal ® (EBJ) Business Achievement Awards and two recognitions from their 2020 Climate Change Business Journal ®  (CCBJ) Business Achievement Awards.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our work over the past year to enhance the environment and make a difference for our communities,” says Lara Poloni, AECOM’s president. “These awards reflect our commitment to providing our clients with the industry’s best technical expertise that can help them solve their most complex challenges and achieve their bold environmental, social and governance ambitions.”

2020 EBJ Business Achievement Awards:

COVID Response: Environmental, Health and Safety Services – Real Estate

AECOM’s industrial hygiene team was contracted by a real estate holding company that owns over 4,000 properties to provide Environmental, Health and Safety services in response to the coronavirus pandemic for their portfolio of hotels, senior housing, offices, warehouses and industrial facilities.

New Practice Areas: Turnkey Remediation Initiative

AECOM’s Turnkey Remediation Initiative integrates consulting, engineering, sustainability, and construction management services to unite practitioners who were traditionally siloed. The new practice improves organizational efficiency, allowing owners to procure a single-source consultant/contractor with a focus on implementing final sustainable remedial solutions.

Project Merit: Sediment Remediation

This project saw the development of new machine learning models as part of a flexible Enhanced Adaptive Management framework for sediment remediation on Virginia’s South River, significantly advancing machine learning as a tool to model and simulate complex environmental processes.

Industry Leadership: Coal Combustion Residual Remediation

AECOM provided high-impact, timely information within expert testimony and contributed significantly to project decision-making and outcomes, as well as public and environmental policy forums. AECOM’s continued use of comprehensive data sets via Ash Mart yielded innovative analysis regarding closure decisions, benefitting and informing rulemaking testimony.

2020 CCBJ Business Achievement Awards:

Consulting & Engineering: Low-Carbon Energy Practice

AECOM provided design and construction services for jetBlue’s new electric vehicle charging infrastructure – the largest system for electric ground service equipment of any airline at JFK International Airport, targeted to cut 4 million pounds (1,700 metric tons) of GHG emissions per year.

Industry Leadership: Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience

AECOM’s multi-disciplinary team of academics and consultants authored the New Zealand National Climate Change Risk Assessment, identifying the most significant climate change risks and identifying opportunities and knowledge gaps to be addressed over a nine-month delivery timeframe.

Environmental Business International provides strategic information and market forecasts for executives involved in 13 business segments, including environmental testing, water & wastewater, air pollution control, environmental consulting & engineering, hazardous waste, remediation, instrumentation, pollution control equipment, waste management, resource recovery, and solid waste management. The EBJ Business Achievement Awards and CCBJ Business Achievement Awards customarily recognize business performance in conventional metrics like revenue growth, M&A, exceptional projects, technology development and deployment in the field, and advances in information and digital technology.
