We live in a new walkable paradigm. With more projects considering walkers, pedestrian planning is playing a much more important role in the design realm. AECOM is dedicated to help our clients transform their facilities into a more pedestrian-friendly and efficient environment.
Our expertise resides in understanding spaces through detailed pedestrian analysis and simulation. By combing various input including existing data gathered by anonymously tracing people’s movements through the latest technology; thorough understanding of design elements by collaborating with architects, designers and engineers; and facility constraints by engaging different stakeholders, we are able to build pedestrian simulation models to robustly represent our clients’ facilities. We can help identify congestion hotspots under existing conditions and propose non-structural changes (i.e., better wayfinding strategies, operational changes) to maximize pedestrian flow and improve operations; test and optimize future design options from a pedestrian flow perspective to enhance user experience; and reduce construction costs.
We take pride in our work and knowledge in transit and railroad facilities/operations, as we have a large portfolio of projects including station design improvements, station and system-wide demand forecasting, pedestrian flow analysis and modeling (Level of Service), evacuation modeling following NFPA 130 criteria, benefit/cost analysis, etc. We also extend our pedestrian services into buildings, retail centers, performance centers, museums, stadiums and other large pedestrian oriented focus areas. In addition, we can help conduct real-time crowding management through anonymously tracing people’s movements and model the interactions among vehicular traffic, transit vehicles with pedestrians to provide a multi-model solution to our clients’ challenges.
