Upgrading and scaling the grid
We specialize in the design, engineering and management of infrastructure projects that upgrade the grid for pivotal utility companies. We have comprehensive capabilities that encompass a wide range of services tailored to meet growing energy demands and improve the capacity and reliability of future grids.
Our expertise includes feasibility studies, detailed engineering and project management for power transmission lines, substations and distribution networks. We integrate advanced technologies such as digital twins and smart grid solutions to optimize performance and promote sustainability.
Our focus on advancing services, solutions and systems enables us to successfully permit more than 30,000 miles (about 48,000 kilometers) of electric transmission lines. To date, we have designed and constructed over 54,000 miles (about 87,000 kilometers) of transmission lines worldwide.
Preparation through knowledge and studies
We design and manage overhead, underground and submarine transmission at voltages ranging from 115–765 kilovolts. We use multiple software packages to perform system studies for high-voltage (HV) power systems and perform a full range of studies, including load calculations, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, harmonic analysis, system stability and drop calculations. For system event analysis, we review interictal epileptiform discharge (IED) event waveforms and protection data to understand and troubleshoot system events.

Our approach combines technical expertise in planning and transmission systems with experience in construction and program management, providing designs in varying conditions: lines in high and changing altitudes, environmentally sensitive areas, heavy contamination areas, difficult access locations, challenging structural conditions such as karst topography, long span river crossings and extreme ice and wind loading.
